A Soča Valley stay for road cyclists
Ride from Srpenica, then come home to space, a mountain-view terrace and a secure garage for your bike.
We also run Sunny Side Cycling. As our apartment guest, you get a discounted rate on road bike rental: ask Mimi for the guest price and availability when planning your stay. Tell us your dates, height and the kind of riding you enjoy so we can help you choose a bike.
Bring your own bike or rent one from us. Free private parking makes arrival easy, and the locked garage keeps your bike and gear indoors overnight. With a kitchen for breakfast before your ride and a terrace to relax on afterwards, the apartment is a comfortable base for several days of exploring.
Ask Rok about routes to suit your legs, from valley rides to a day climbing towards Mangart. We can help with local advice, guided rides and bike support through Sunny Side Cycling. Rental and cycling services are arranged separately from your accommodation.
Your hosts
We're Mimi and Rok, a couple of outdoor-mad locals who live right next door to the apartment. Between us we cover just about everything the Soča Valley has to offer, and we love helping guests make the most of it.
Mimi
your first point of contact
She'll help you pick the right cycling route, match you with a bike, or arrange a paragliding flight over the valley. A lifelong mountain biker, road cyclist and kayaker — Soča green is her favourite colour — and a piano teacher when she's not out on the water.
Rok
cycling guide and bike mechanic
An IT engineer by trade and a self-confessed sports addict. He's ridden nearly every mountain pass in Slovenia and the Alps, and has even shared the road with Tour de France champion Tadej Pogačar a few times. Bikes, kitesurfing, skiing, photography, the odd accordion tune — he does it all.
Staying with us means real local support: honest tips on routes, restaurants and weather, plus a bike tool whenever you need one. Just knock on the door or send a message — we're always happy to help.
Srpenica, and the valley
Srpenica is a quiet riverside village in the heart of the Soča Valley, just 10 km from Bovec. It's a calm, uncrowded spot — no summer traffic, no town-centre noise — yet all of Bovec's restaurants, cafés and activity providers are only a ten-minute drive or a scenic gravel ride away.
The house sits in a peaceful neighbourhood and is fully detached and private, with plenty of room for parking right on site — no meters, no fines, no circling for a space like in Bovec centre. From the balcony and terrace you get a great open view of the Julian Alps.
The setting is a natural launch pad for the outdoors: the turquoise Soča River is a ten-minute walk away, and Srpenica is the closest accommodation to the Boka waterfall — one of Slovenia's highest — just 4 km by bike. It's ideal for cycling, rafting, kayaking, hiking and alpine adventures.
If you're looking for a private, roomy apartment with your own parking and mountain views, in a quiet village close to everything, this is a great fit.
Getting here
There is no airport in the Soča Valley, and no train. Most guests fly into Trieste, Ljubljana or Klagenfurt and drive the last two hours.
If you would rather not hire a car — or you are arriving with bikes, or landing late — we run the transfer ourselves, in our own Mercedes Viano. Up to seven people with luggage, and bikes travel free, with proper tie-downs.
Prices are per van, one way, not per person, so they divide well across a family or a group of riders.
| From | Distance | Per van |
|---|---|---|
| Trieste Airport (TRS) | 95 km | €200 |
| Klagenfurt Airport (KLG) | ~125 km | €200 |
| Ljubljana Airport (LJU) | ~135 km | €220 |
| Ljubljana city | 130 km | €260 |
| Venice / Treviso | 185+ km | €400 |
| Villach | 87 km | €130 |
| Nova Gorica | 72 km | €150 |
| Bled | 87 km | €180 |
| Kranjska Gora | 47 km | €100 |
| Tarvisio | 50 km | €70 |
We also run shorter hops around the valley — a trailhead, Kobarid, or the top of the Mangart climb if you would rather ride down than up. Those are on the full price list.
Waiting time €10 an hour. Prices can change — the live list is on the Sunny Side Cycling site, and we will confirm before anything is booked.
Top 5 things to do in Bovec
The valley in five days, if you only have five. Everything below is within about half an hour of the door — and all of it, with phone numbers and opening hours, is in our guest guide.
-
Get on the Soča
Rafting, kayaking or canyoning on the most famous stretch of whitewater in Slovenia. The river runs 8–12 °C even in August — that is what makes it that colour, and why you go with people who know it. Operators run from Bovec and Čezsoča, ten minutes up the road.
Who to call → -
Fly over the valley
A tandem paraglide off Kuk, Stol, Matajur or Mangart, ten to forty minutes above the river and the Julian Alps. From €190, and they pick the launch site each morning on the wind — so book a day with some slack in it.
Who to call → -
Ride or drive the Mangart Saddle
Slovenia's highest paved road at 2,055 m. On a bike it is 50 km and 1,800 m of climbing from the door; by car it is a spectacular hour. Ask about the state of the upper section before you commit.
Routes and bikes → -
Walk up to the Boka waterfall
One of the highest waterfalls in Slovenia, and Srpenica is the closest village to it — 4 km from the apartment, easily a morning on a bike or on foot. Loudest and fullest in spring snowmelt.
More in the valley → -
Hike to Krn Lake
The largest mountain lake in the Julian Alps, at 1,350 m. From Lepena it is 11.7 km and 887 m of ascent, five to six hours round trip, and a hut fifteen minutes short of the lake serves food from June to September. No swimming — the water is protected.

Shorter on time, or it is raining? The Tolmin Gorges and Kozjak waterfall are both under an hour away, and the river at Most Lipuc is a ten-minute walk from the apartment.

Located right in the middle of the valley, it is perfect for exploring the area. Their recommendations, such as the Bovec Breakfast home delivery service featuring local products, allowed us to truly enjoy our stay. Highly recommended.
